The biggest Advantage to Ecommerce Businesses is that PayPal is one of the most widely utilized Internet Payment Systems. Sellers and Buyers all over the World trust PayPal. By offering PayPal as a method of payment, your Home Based Business can receive and send US payments, as well as, International payments.

The PayPal Monthly and Yearly Financial Reports are absolutely the best feature for me. I truly believe that for most Online Sellers, these Financial Reports are one of the main advantages for using PayPal. All of the accounting is done for you. PayPal keeps track of the payments you receive, payment you send, postal fees, refunds, and transaction fees.

You also have access to many Merchant Tools on PayPal. You have the ability to send your buyer an invoice and you can cancel the invoice if necessary. PayPal also allows you to add a BIN Button in your auctions. PayPal can also be integrated into your own website if you choose to set up your own ecommerce internet store.

As I explained in my previous blog post, you can also use PayPal to print your shipping labels. I go into more detail about this feature in my previous post entitled, “PayPal and USPS Click-N-Ship Online Postage Shipping Solutions”.

I would strongly recommend that you set up a Premier or Business PayPal Account for your Ecommerce Home Based Business.

How to Improve your Image Search Ranking

Most Bloggers concentrate their SEO (Search Engine Optimization) efforts on the text in their blog posts, websites, and product listings. This is great for surfing on the web. However, search engines such as Google and Bing, also search your images and ranks these images, before displaying them.

Increase your image search ranking by naming your pictures with good descriptive text. When renaming your photo from img001.jpg, choose a detailed informative filename. The picture of your favorite pet dog could be renamed pet-yellow-lab-dog.jpg. The hyphens between the words represent spaces to Google. This gives the search engine information about your picture.

Also, remember that the search engines cannot read embedded text on your photos. Therefore, when you want to give more detailed image information, use Alternate Text. This attribute allows Google to understand what your picture represents. Google’s image search will use this information to help return the best images for that user’s search query. Here is a great example of Alternate Text:

The Alt Text inside of the HTML Code should be a short, concise sentence. Describe what the image represents as though the picture was not available to be viewed. Please, do not use this Alt Text method to spam keywords. This could have potentially negative results. Your website may be perceived as spamming and lower your site’s ranking. Also, Alternate Text is used by the visually impaired using screen readers and others who have dial up connections where the images cannot be displayed.

Finally, remember to insert the appropriate picture next to the relevant text it pertains to in your blog, website or product listing. This will help the search engines to better understand the image, and improves your image search ranking.

During this Holiday Season you should have at least 2 different ways to print your Online Postage Shipping Labels. In my opinion, PayPal and USPS Click-N-Ship are 2 of the easiest shipping solutions available.

Most Online Sellers are familiar with printing Shipping Labels through their PayPal Accounts. PayPal allows you to print your Shipping Labels using USPS or UPS. The USPS Postal Services that are available through PayPal are Priority, Express, First Class, Media Mail, and Parcel Post. The shipping fees are taken out of your PayPal Balance. Here is a Direct Link to the PayPal Login where you can print a Shipping Label.

You can also print your Priority Mail shipping labels from the USPS through their USPS Click-N-Ship Service. Here are the step by step instructions. Go to the Click-N-Ship Website, set up an account, and then fill in the information for your label. You will have to use your credit card to pay for your shipping fee.

Just remember, that you can only Print Priority Mail shipping labels through Click-N-Ship. If you need Technical Support, they can be reached at 800-344-7779 option 3.

The United States Post Office (USPS) offers Free Priority Mail Supplies. You can place your order for these supplies through the internet by going to The Postal Store. You must login using your Click-N-Ship login information. If you do not have an account, sign up for one.

Dating Antique, Vintage and Collectible Jewelry takes some detective work. You can usually date the piece of jewelry by the signature. I use these two different websites to identify and date a designer’s signature. There are also some great Jewelry Reference Books available for your use. I use Collecting Costume Jewelry 101, the basics of starting, building, and upgrading, Identification and Value Guide by Julia C. Carroll and Collectible Silver Jewelry Identification and Value Guide by Fred Rezazadeh. If you don’t want to purchase these Collectible Books you can always go to your public library and see if they are available. I hope this helps.

Collecting Little Golden Books

Here is what you should look at when buying Little Golden Books.

First, I would check the condition of the Book. Is the title page written in? Are the pages torn and dirty, or clean and crisp? Are there any crayon or ink marks throughout the book? Is the Book Spine damaged or intact? Are the colors still clear and vibrant or are they faded?

Once I determine if the book is in good condition. I look at the age of the book. One thing to look at when determining the age is the color of the outside binding. The very first Vintage Little Golden Books had a blue binding.

September 19, 1942, was the date the first ad was placed in Publisher’s Weekly. Twelve Little Golden books were issued first. The titles of the first 12 books were The Poky Little Puppy, The Alphabet A-Z, The Animals of Farmer Jones, Three Little Kittens, Bedtime Stories, This Little Piggy, Mother Goose, The Golden book of Fairy Tales, Nursery Songs, The Little Red Hen, Prayers for Children, and Baby’s Book.

Some of you may remember these books fondly and probably have childhood memories of your mom and dad reading you these books. They are great books and are still being sold today. The older books have become quite collectible and some are really valuable.

There are several ways to date these books. One of the easiest ways to date the Vintage Little Golden Books is by the Spine Design and color of the binding.

From 1942-1947, the majority of the first 35 book titles had blue bindings and were published with dust jackets. Then the bindings changed to gold spines, from 1947-1949 and had a pattern of flowers, leaves and animals. In 1949-1969 there was an Antique Gold spine with varied patterns of leaves, plants, and flowers.

From 1955-1959 The Christmas books had a Christmas spine design for the Christmas stories. Then my favorite spine design came out in 1954-1956, this was the Mickey Mouse Club Edition, they had red spines with portraits. I have only had a few of these books, but they all had Mickey Mouse heads on the red spines. From 1969 through the present the Little Golden Books have a Gold Spine with elephants, chickens, and crickets in the design.

I hope this helped to explain the very basics of what to look for when collecting Little Golden Books.

Pathways In Science Our Wide Wide World Craig Baldwin

Vintage Book titled, “PATHWAYS IN SCIENCE OUR WIDE WIDE WORLD”. This is a School Book and has the school I. D. sticker on the inside cover, see picture. This book is in Good Condition with moderate wear and discoloration to the cover. The book has a copyright date of 1932, by Gerald S. Craig and Sara E. Baldwin.

The book is 312 pages long. The pages have minor yellowing and discoloration with no writing. There is a Tiny Crease on the bottom corner of the first cover page. There is a 1 inch tear on the bottom of page 57. There is a ¼ inch tear and small crease on the top of page 59 near the spine. There is a small crease on the bottom corner of page 131.

This book contains black and white photos, graphics, and 4 color panels that are clean and bright. Overall this book was well taken care of. This Book would make a wonderful addition to your Vintage School Book Collection.

Twitter’s popularity has grown over the past few years as people from all walks of life have been embracing the idea of communicating in 140 characters or less. What began as short Internet-generated text messages followed by a handful of people, has morphed into a huge juggernaut where some celebrities have more than a million followers and post regular comments online. And Twitter is also becoming a second home to many small, medium and large businesses.

“It’s a very valuable tool if you use it right,” said Steven Strauss, author of The Small Business Bible: Everything You Need to Know to Succeed in Your Small Business. “If you’re doing it right then you should be building your brand and getting more business as a result.”

According to Strauss, Twitter is an ideal marketing tool for service-oriented businesses and retailers that can run promotions or highlight specials in the alloted word count. Some business owners say the idea of becoming a member of Twitter and actually Tweeting (the lingo for posting comments or content on the site’s feed) is just too overwhelming, or seems downright silly. Take Michael Jensen, an entrepreneur who develops applications for the iPhone and Twitter, among other technologies. Jensen’s Tweetbeep.com e-mail application alerts him when someone on Twitter tweets about a subject of interest.

“If someone tweets about something similar to what my App does, I usually respond to them,” said Jensen. While small businesses can create a business account, Jensen suggests creating instead a personal account and Tweeting about business there.

“Business accounts aren’t really something that excites people,” he said.

When engaging in social networking, especially Twitter, a small business should follow some basic rules to ensure its efforts are effective and to avoid getting admonished by the Twitter crowd. First thing to consider: time spent Tweeting. It’s not advantageous for a business owner to spend all day on Twitter and zero time running the operations. The experts suggest that professional users should schedule specific time slots, say first thing in the morning and again in the evening, to post content and respond to followers.

According to Christopher Sherrod, founder and chief thinker at AbundanceUnlimited.com, a Web consulting company, there are two major no-nos: don’t automate your responses or fail to respond to followers.

“Some people get banned on Twitter by automating everything including all their posts,” said Sherrod. “People don’t like robots. They like real people. Social media helps with personal branding because people buy from people they like.”

When using Twitter, small businesses should also keep it informal, but not too personal. With social media there’s a tendency to be very casual, but keep in mind too much personal information may turn off potential customers.

“Nobody wants to know what you’re cooking for dinner,” said Sherrod.

The key to being successful on Twitter is engaging your followers. That can be achieved by providing the right content -- whether it’s a summary of an interesting article or updates on advances in your industry. It can also be done by tweeting promotions and specials. And is there such thing as the “wrong” content? The experts say: yes.

“If you’re a business you don’t want to share political views unless that’s part of your business,” said Jensen. “Keep it neutral.”

Here is a preview of one of the books I will have scheduled to start tomorrow for Week 1 of the 6 Week Stimulus Extravaganza!!

Vintage Photoplay Book titled, “PETER PAN The Story of PETER and WENDY”. This book is in Very Good Condition with minor wear to the cover. The book has a copyright date of 1911 by Charles Scribner’s Sons. The book is 220 pages long. This book is by James M. Barrie and is illustrated with scenes from the Photoplay A Paramount Picture featuring Betty Bronson and Mary Brian. This was a Christmas Present and has, “Christmas 1926 Anne Mae from Marg”, written on the inside cover.

Overall this book was well taken care of. The pages have slight yellowing to the edges, a few small spots of discoloration here and there throughout the rest of book. There are no tears or writing expect as described above. There are some creases near the spine on pages 35, 37, 84, 85, 100, 101, 132, and 133. These creases appear to have occurred in the binding process. There are also some small creases approximately 1 to 1 ¼ inch long on the top corner of pages 57, 59, 77, 85, 91, 93, and 154.

Old Habits Are Hard To Break... Especially For Online Sellers

Have you been selling online for a while? Perhaps you started out on eBay, like I did. Oh boy, was that fun and easy! Five to ten years ago, all you had to do was put up a photograph and a description on eBay, (almost any item), and the odds were good that someone out there would see it and buy it. The economy was in a better place and people were spending. eBay's user base grew. Sellers were happy.

As the eCommerce world has evolved, and our economy has taken a turn for the worse, sellers are finding themselves with few options... change strategies or be left out in the cold. eBay isn't quite the selling venue it used to be, since they implemented regulations that cater to buyers whims, define what you sell, how you ship, what payment methods you accept, and add higher costs for the priviledge of selling there. Many sellers felt pressed to break out on their own, or join alternative auction sites, and let me tell you, old habits really are hard to break!

The habit I would like to discuss today is complacency. The definition of complacency is: contented to a fault with oneself or one's actions. Are you complacent in how you handle your online selling? Are you sticking to what you know, instead of reaching out to learn new ways to be successful? This article is intended to motivate you into finding new ways to enhance your online business. We're going to talk about The OLA Six Week Stimulus Extravaganza, but rest assured, these tips apply to any venue and any website.

The OLA Six Week Stimulus Extravaganza was developed with two goals in mind:
1.) To promote a sustained advertising campaign for OnlineAuction.com.
2.) To share search engine optimization tips between sellers.

I follow an interesting lady on Twitter. Her ID is TrumpAllCanada. She is a marketing representative for the Trump Network. (Not a bad job, eh?) Her posts are always motivational and/or inspirational, and I have enjoyed following her tremendously. This week, she quoted J Paul Getty, one of the first billionaires. I would rather have 1% of 100 peoples efforts than 100% of my own efforts. Take a moment to really let that sink in... is that not the absolute definition of teamwork? The OLA Six Week Stimulus Extravaganza is meant to be exactly that... a team effort!

To participate in the Extravaganza, you do not have to be a current user of social networking sites, like Twitter or Facebook. The members who are using those services will promote all the items in the Event, and you will see an increase in the amount of views your auctions are receiving. Both sites I mentioned are free, and while joining their community is entirely up to you, the Event offers you the opportunity to give them a try while there are other members available to mentor you, to join you, to support you, and to applaud your efforts.

The guidelines established for the Extravaganza are fairly simple. Adhering to each guideline also improves your chances for winning a great prize! There has been some confusion over why certain guidelines / tips have been included, so here is a brief explanation of what some of the more important guidelines will do for you. Remember, these tips can be used at any site.

1.) Use a keyword rich title, limiting yourself to 72 characters.
2.) Use the subtitle space, with a maximum of 50 characters, and be sure it contains keywords from your title.
3.) Use your title as the first wording in your description.

How is this important? Take a look at the graphics below. These are two examples of search engine results. Pay particular attention to what words are included in the results.

This example shows you how keywords in your title can improve the way in which people find your auction listing. The title of the auction is in blue, and is one of the ways search engines locate our items for buyers. The words below the title are directly taken from the description area. Having a title and subtitle with popular keywords is essential to helping buyers find you. Using your title and subtitle to start your description allows the search engine spiders to further determine relevancy and rank... it like getting a double bang for your buck!

In the next example, you should know that the subtitle was used to include keywords only. The subtitle was not sentence-based, nor was it included in the description. Subtitles are used primarily for the benefit of the search engine spiders, and because the subtitle corresponded to the keywords in the title and description, an optimal rank was achieved.

Both of the above examples are acceptable! It is the keywords, the title and the character count that matter. Thinking in terms of character counts, imagine if this seller had used a bunch of meaningless words in the title, (like LOOK! and WOW! and AMAZING!), taking it in upwards of 72 characters. Would the search engines have categorized the product correctly? Perhaps not, and to make matters worse, as a buyer, you would not get the full impact of what was being sold, so would you click through? Absolutely not.

In addition, today's sellers must understand that searching is entirely relative to the person who is making the search. In the first example above, one buyer may use the words Disney In The Picture Frame Mickey, where they would find that particular listing number 1 out of 119,000 results. Others might use Disney Frame Mickey Minnie, where this listing would be found in the second spot out of 58,000 results. Less specific buyers may only use the words Disney Picture Frame Mickey, where this listing would appear on page 6 out of 252,000 results. Those results change quite rapidly, too, as people are creating new pages with those same keywords and older, irrelevant pages are falling in rank. Your best bet is to write good content, include the keywords that will best match your item, and create backlinks, to show support for the item.

What is a backlink?
Backlinks are in-bound links, created when an outside website hosts a link pointing back to a particular item. For example, when you post an item to Twitter, the link you provide is a backlink. Think of each backlink as a popularity vote for your item. The more popular items get better search engine visibility, so place links everywhere you can! Twitter, Facebook, MySpace, and blogs are a great way to develop backlinks.

Getting back to the Extravaganza guidelines...

4.) Use your exact title at the very end of your description.

Why? Because, at OLA, for example, the entire description box you find in the Sell Your Item form is considered as your description to the search engine spiders. Many sellers use this area to place wording about Shipping, Payment Options and Terms. You should place your title in the last paragraph because search engine spiders gather the most information from your first paragraph, (about 25 words), and your last paragraph, (also about 25 words). The middle, where you are doing the majority of your selling, and clarifying your terms, is skimmed over for keywords, but is not indexed as closely as the other two paragraphs... it's fluff. Putting that title back in at the end is a reaffirmation of your original wording, and stands to add relevancy to your keywords.

5.) In your description, be sure to include a link back to your store.

Another backlink? You bet! Only this time it links to your store, (or to your list of items, if you don't have a storefront). Once you get an interested buyer, placing a link to your other items makes it easy for them to continue shopping with you! Lastly, 6.) Name your photos!

How? Basically, rename them once they are stored on your hard drive, and before you upload them to a hosting site, like Photobucket or OLA itself. For more information about how naming images can benefit you, please read this article, from one of my favorite SEO resources, Site-Reference.com.

All of the guidelines above have been tested by me and other sellers contributing to the Extravaganza. As stated earlier, these techniques are universal. Testing, for me, is a long process in which I create two similar listings, with differing attributes, and I monitor which one gets better search engine placement, traffic and a quicker sale. I highly suggest that you employ similar tactics to locate positive results of your own!

Use one or use them all... break that old complacency habit and start taking control of your search engine placement and traffic. There are certainly more tips to be found in the world of SEO, so please share with us if you have found a winner!

This Bell measures approximately 4 ½ inches tall and 3 ¼ inches in diameter. The box is in Very Good Condition with a couple small pieces of scotch tape and a small area, on the front of the box, where some of the litho has been torn off, see picture.

Home Interiors Denim Days Porcelain figurines titled, “Holiday Sleds”. These figurines are in Mint Condition. The girl measures approximately 5 1/4 inches tall by 3 3/8 inches long by 2 5/8 inches wide at the base. The bottoms are marked “‘DENIM DAYS’ by ‘HOMCO’ copyright 1985 Home Interiors & Gifts, Inc. #1528 Crafted in China”.

These figurines come with the original tag and Styrofoam box. The tag is in Excellent Condition. The original Styrofoam box is in Very Good Condition, and “X-mas Sledding” written in blue in on the side. The box still holds the figurines securely.

This figurine is in Excellent Condition with a few tiny flecks of missing red paint and a flea bite on the back side bottom of the base. This flea bite may have occurred in the manufacture of the piece. The figurine measures approximately 6 inches tall by 5 1/4 inches long by 3 inches wide. I started the Stubsinc Online Auction Blog in December 2008. I did a lot of research to figure out how to blog. The best information that I found on creating and customizing a Blogger blog was on You Tube. The videos below will give you all the basics that you need to create and customize you own blog:

You may be thinking about starting a blog yourself, but are not sure what you want to blog about. In my blog I wanted to spotlight the onlineauction.com item listings that were for sale. This is very easy to do and takes about 5 minutes to post an item to the blog. Just open the auction listings that you would like to add, copy and paste the title and description to the blog, add a picture, your auction link and you are done.

I signed up for google alerts because I wanted to see how fast my blog posts were getting into google base. Google Alerts will send you an email when the criteria that you used in your alerts are found on Google. I used Stubsinc as my search term, comprehensive as the type, and I chose once a day for the emails. This helps me understand how well my blog posts are feeding into Google.

Amazingly, each time that I post to my blog, or the OLA Team Blog, I receive a Google Alert within hours, telling me about the blog post. Since I have included a link to the auction listings I am blogging about, I will have a greater chance of directing potential buyers to these items.

It is very important to use great keywords in your blog post. Also, use the “Labels for this post” box on the bottom of your “New Post”. In this box, I use the most important keywords of the blog post, onlineauction.com, ola.com, and stubsinc. It is just another way to advertise and bring more traffic to Online Auction.
